The MiG Kill Debrief highlights Navy CAPT Nick "Mongo" Mongillo (Ret) and his Iraqi MiG-21 shootdown during Day 1 of Operation DESERT STORM. The brief includes the actual aircraft (Head’s Up Display) audio and video footage detailing the engagement.    

The keynote details a coming-of-age fighter pilot story very few can tell.  During the brief, Mongo shares his personal story as a brand-new FA-18 pilot that joined the VFA-81 Sunliners two weeks after the birth of his first child and only days before Iraqi invaded Kuwait. Follow Mongo and his squadron mates as they sail on USS Saratoga directly to the Red Sea, through war preparations, Gulf War conflict, combat losses, repatriation of POWs and the return cruise home.  Relive the Day 1 strike including ingress to the target, shootdown of MiG-21 while carrying a full bomb load, weapons delivery, and the egress back to USS Saratoga in the Red Sea.  Trail Mongo as he returns to Iraq for Gulf War II, commanding a Super Hornet squadron and cadre of nugget pilots as part of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.  Mongo closes the brief by updating the audience on current military posturing and global threats.
